THREE people were arrested after allegedly trying to sell a 15-day-old baby for £11,000.

The tot’s Romanian mum, 19, and a Spanish couple both aged 26 are thought to have been held after Spanish police requested assistance from their counterparts in the UK.

Officers in Spain grew suspicious after the mum told them her newborn baby had died following an operation in Wales.

The “dead” baby — reportedly born in Zamora in northern Spain last month — was found alive in the Cardiff Bay area of the Welsh capital.

Officers believe the mum tried to sell the tot to the Spanish couple for between £2,200 and £11,000.

The mum filled out a registration form naming one of the people arrested as the father of the child.

Police are now waiting for DNA tests to determine the child’s paternity.

A spokesman said the investigation is ongoing and officers have not ruled out further arrests.
