'I love your smile and glasses' ... pals pay tribute to boy killed in bus crash
CLASSMATES yesterday paid tribute to Rowan Fitzgerald, who was killed in the Coventry bus crash, at the seven-year-old’s funeral.
Friends from St Anthony’s Catholic Primary School, in Leamington, shared stories about Rowan and told how they would miss their classmate.
One friend said: “I really miss you but I will always remember you are with me wherever I go.”
Another said: “Saying goodbye makes me cry and sad. I love your smile and glasses.”
Others read, “I’m saying goodbye as I didn’t have a chance” and “you are my best and good friend”.
Rowan’s funeral was held at St Peter’s Church in Leamington, at 12.30pm, followed by a private family burial at Leamington Cemetary.
The little boy was on the top deck of the bus when it crashed into Sainsbury’s in Coventry on October 3.
He was with his eight-year-old cousin and their grandparents during the crash, which also left his cousin needing an operation for a serious leg injury.
Rev Noel Breslin, who held the service, said: “If we take a careful look at the life of Rowan we will see the impact he has had on all those whose lives he touched.
“Then we will see he accomplished in his few years what many of us in a whole lifetime may struggle to achieve.
“We are keenly aware of what he meant to his mum and dad, to his brother - and his grandparents, and near relations.”
The crash, which is still being investigated by West Midlands Police, also killed 76-year-old Dora Hancox, from Nuneaton.
