We were left to ride out Patricia

Hell ... Donna and Mike

A BRITISH holidaymaker yesterday claimed she was “left to die” after she had to ride out Hurricane Patricia at her Mexican hotel.

Donna McJury, 50, was on a Thomson holiday as the most powerful storm ever recorded in the Western Hemisphere smashed the country.

She said holiday staff told her and husband Mike they would be bussed inland to avoid the worst of it.

But after waiting for seven hours, they were told they had to stay at their beachfront hotel. The hurricane then lashed the west coast where they were staying with 165mph winds.

Donna estimated 200 Brits were left at the hotel but said their holiday rep left in a taxi.

She told The Sun on Sunday: “Most of the Americans and Mexicans left on the buses. We thought we were left to die. We are lucky to be alive. We were terrified.”

The school catering manager, of Ashburton, Devon, was in Puerto Vallarta, which was predicted to take the brunt of the storm but dodged the worst.

Thomson said: “Our resort team have been providing and will continue to provide all possible support to our customers.”

Patricia caused less damage than feared across Mexico and wind speeds fell as it headed to the US.
