Toddler in coma after Pizza Hut choke horror

Jacob Jenkins is in a coma

A TODDLER is fighting for his life after his heart stopped when he choked on a grape in Pizza Hut.
Little Jacob Jenkins, two, is in a coma after the fruit became lodged in his throat as he ate at the restaurant with his parents.

A Pizza Hut first aider tried in vain to remove the grape as Jacob’s dad ran for help to a nearby cinema.
Two first aiders from the complex also tried to help as paramedics and a Great North Air Ambulance crew rushed to the resaurant in Hartlepool, Co Durham
Jacob’s mum Abigail Wilson said her son’s heart stopped and he was “gone” for nearly 30 MINUTES before medics restarted it as he was rushed to hospital.

He was put into the induced coma on Friday evening after paramedics managed to bring him back to life.
His parents, Abigail Wilson and David Jenkins, are keeping a bedside vigil at the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle.

Speaking from hospital, Abigail said: “Jacob is still critical and still can go either way, with little chance of pulling through.

Anyone who knows Jacob knows he is a strong, determined, stubborn little boy and I hope he uses these qualities to pull through for us.

“We aren’t asking for miracles, we don’t expect perfection, we just want him to stay with us.

Abigail, from Hartlepool, added: “Jacob was ‘gone’ for around 30 minutes, the air support and paramedics helped him get a heart beat.

“Everyone was great and helped us the best they could, but the grape was stuck and the only way of getting it out was through the paramedics using surgical scissors.

“Jacob is a lot more stable than he was but he is still critically ill. He is in an induced coma, but when they decide to take him off, it is really down to Jacob.

“They don’t know what damage has been caused yet so we need lots of prayers still.”

The restaurant remained closed over the weekend.

A Pizza Hut spokesperson said: “We can confirm that there was a very serious incident involving a child at our Hartlepool Hut.

“Our thoughts and concern are with the child and his family at this very difficult time.”
