Labour forced to suspend two more politicians for controversial online posts about Jewish people

The Sun

THE Labour Party has acted quickly to suspend two of its councillors accused of making racist remarks about Jewish people.

The suspensions come after a torrid week for the party which has been accused of having a problem with anti-Semitism - a form of racism where prejudices or hostilities are targeted at Jews.

Nottingham City Councillor Ilyas Aziz was the first to become the subject of an investigation today in relation to comments he made about Israel.

In a Facebook post Mr Aziz appeared to suggest that the country's treatment of Palestinians can be likened to the Nazi's treatment of the Jews.

In a seperate comment he seemed to suggest that Israel should be relocated to the United States.

Just 30 minutes after news of his suspension appeared on the Guido Fawkes political blog, a Labour spokeswoman announced that former Blackburn mayor Salim Mulla has also been suspended.

In a Facebook post Mr Mulla appeared to suggest that Israel is behind some of the atrocities committed by ISIS.

One post from August last year reads: "So we have France - voting to give Palestine statehood and then all of a sudden they get attacked by ISIS.

"Then we have Japan giving Palestine $100m to reconstruct Gaza and suddently, ISIS takes two Japanese hostages!"

Shockingly Mr Mulla also appeared to suggest that Israel was behind the Sandy Hook massacre, in which 20 children aged between six and seven were shot dead at a school in the US.

In a separate post, also from August last year, Mr Mullah appeared to share the same views as Mr Aziz and Naz Shah, by suggesting that Israel should be relocated to the United States.

Mr Aziz's and Mr Mullah's suspensions follow a challenging week for the Labour Party.

On Wednesday Bradford West MP Naz Shah was suspended from Labour because of a 2014 Facebook post in which she also suggested Israel should be moved to the US.

The row escalated when former London mayor Ken Livingston said that Hitler was a "Zionist" before he "went mad and killed six million Jews".

The head of Unite, the union which is Labour's biggest donor, has said that the anti-Semitism row is being used by Jeremy Corbyn's opponents to undermine his leadership.

Len McCluskey has called the outrage a "cynical attempt to manipulate anti-Semitism for political aims".

The opponents he refers to are members of the Labour Party, as well what he refers to as the "right wing press" and the Conservative Party.

Labour is holding an independent inquiry into anti-Semitism and other forms of racism in its ranks.

Speaking on the BBC's Andrew Marr Show yesterday, shadow international development secretary Diane Abbott, said Ken Livingston's remarks had been "extremely offensive".

She also said there had been 12 reported cases of anti-Semitism in the party since Mr Corbyn became leader - all of which have resulted in suspension.

She added: "It's something of a smear against ordinary members to say the party has a problem with anti-Semitism"

Israel's Labour leader Isaac Herzog has said he was "appalled and outraged by the recent examples of anti-Semitism by Labour Party Officials".

He added that it was "horrific and unthinkable for a British politician in the 21st centurty" to have made Mr Livingston's comments.
