Girl, 12, survives being hit in the head by a massive throwing knife thrown at her by a boy at school
A 12-YEAR-OLD girl is lucky to be alive after she was stabbed in the head with a throwing knife.
Yao Huilin was rushed to hospital after the specialist blade was lodged 3cm into her skull.
According to reports, the knife was thrown by a boy at school who was aiming at her friend.
The weapon that stuck into her skull was a 15-centimetre throwing knife.
The young girl was raced to Dongguang City Third People’s Hospital, in South China’s Guangdong Province.
The deadly blade was removed from her skull by Chief neurosurgeon Zeng Zhiming and his surgical team.
According to the doctor, the girl is lucky to be alive.
The knife missed all the major veins and arteries and Yao would be dead if the knife had gone any deeper.
Zeng said: "From CT scans we found that the knife was wedged in a tiny slit between the child’s parietal and occipital bones.
"This space is usually non-existent in adults, but because the patient is still young her skull has yet to fully develop.
Zeng said that if she had been older, the blade might not have even stuck into her skull.
Yao, a fifth-grader said: "At around 7pm one day after supper, my friend and I were walking through a park when she and another boy got into an argument.
"When we left, the boy threw the knife at my friend - but it hit me instead."
According to reports, the father of the 13-year-old boy paid 8,000 RMB in medical bills, the equivalent of £837. "
The boy’s family is in discussions with Yao’s parents to arrange more compensation.
As the boy is under 14, he can’t be charged with causing intentional injury.
He has been let off with a caution.
Yao is expected to be discharged from hospital next week.
