5 Best Emulator To Run Android Apps on PC

Android is one of the most popular mobile computing operating systems and powers a diverse range of phones, including the low-end ones and the high-end flagship. The good thing about Android is that other than running it on mobile devices, it can also run on the desktop with a suitable emulator. In case you have an ancient Windows machine and want to convert it into something useful, running Android on it can give your ancient Windows machine a new lease of life.
DO You Know? You Can Also Run Android Apps in the Google Chrome Browser
There are many free Android emulators for Windows on the market but only a few of them could match up to our expectations. Listed below is a carefully curated list of Android emulators for your Windows PC.

Bluestacks has been one of the most sought-after Android emulators thanks to its easy installation and the ability to accept third party apk’s by double clicking on them. This app supports one of the most exhaustive lists of applications and is a natural choice if you are on a quest for an Android emulator to run apps and play Android Games.
Android-Emulators-Bluestacks-user-interface
As we said earlier, Bluestacks comes packed in a single file which can be installed directly, and unlike other programs it doesn’t need a third-party virtualization tool.
We found Bluestack to be best optimised for playing games, though the UI is slightly different from any run-of-the-mill Android phone and keeps reminding you that you are using an emulator.
Android-Emulators-Andy-user-interface
Andy OS is another Android emulator, which unlike most of other emulators on the market, offers features like touchscreen support. We need to install virtualbox in the system, and the installer file will automatically install Oracle VM, in case you don’t have it installed in your system.
The installation process can be a bit time-consuming and resource-hogging if you are using an under-specced device. Once the installation is done, it prompts a restart after which you are ready to experience Andy OS.
Android-Emulators-Andy-user-settings
The best takeaway of the emulator has to be the fact that it matches up so closely with an actual Android device, and if you dig inside the settings Andy will show that it is running on Android 4.4 (a.k.a KitKat). Another good bit is that Andy OS offers a feature wherein you can use your phone as a remote control whilst playing games!
Android-Emulators-Genymotion-user-interface
Genymotion is the best bet if you are looking for a complete Android experience. Genymotion emulator, however, needs you to not only sign up at their website but also activate your account by verifying your e-mail address. Just like Andy, Genymotion uses VirtualBox, which will be used by the emulator to create a virtual machine.
Android-Emulators-GenyMotion-settings
The unique feature of Genymotion emulator is that it lets you choose between a slew of Android devices, both smartphones and tablets, and then uses the Virtual Box to emulate the device. We choose HTC One running on Android KitKat 4.4.4, and we were impressed by the level of detailing. The x86-built architecture makes Genymotion faster than Bluestacks. Some of the features like Pixel perfect and Screenshots are only available in the paid version.
Android-Emulators-Youwave-user-interface
YouWave Android emulator is the natural pick for users who don’t use a high-end system. Unlike other emulators, YouWave can be installed and run in a low configuration PC without any problems. Additionally, the emulator also supports Android online multiplayer gaming, and it features an easy-to-use user interface.
Android-Emulators-Youwave-menu
Users can install apps by using apk files or by directly heading to Playstore and downloading the app. We would like to let you know that YouWave is not completely free, but the company offers a 10-day trial before you make up your mind to shell out some money.
Android-Emulators-Windows-Android-user-interface
As the name implies, this emulator is highly optimised for Windows systems. The emulator can be installed easily and the fact that it runs on Windows Kernel ensures that the emulator is speedy and it doesn’t really get hung up in the middle. Windows Android dynamically chooses the appropriate UI based on the size of the windows. The emulator also supports the use of mobile phones as controllers for the games.
Android-Emulators-Windows-Android-settings
Windows Android has one of the best home screens we have come across in emulators, and the UI is highly optimized for PC usage. It’s good to see the app operate at lightning fast speed without any lag whatsoever.
It is hard to hand pick a single winner as each emulator has its own pros and cons. I have been personally using Bluestacks for quite a while and found it to be one of the most simple yet intuitive emulators out of the lot. The fact that Bluestacks is completely free is icing on the cake for users. Bluestacks steals the crown as we found it to be extremely balanced, and it supports one of the widest ranges of Android apps. If you are a serial gamer, without any second thought, I would recommend the Windows Android emulator as it renders the best graphics without any frame drops and also lets you use the Android phone as a controller.

Which Android emulator have you used, and which one is your favorite? Let us know in the comments below.

Do You Think BlackBerry Phones Should Run Android?

Before Apple’s iPhone came out in 2007, the smartphone market was in fact dominated by BlackBerry. One of its chief features was the familiar tactile keyboard that sat underneath the screen until BlackBerry decided in 2013 to take its phones in a new direction more traversed by its contemporaries and created a phone dominated entirely by a touch screen. Sales didn’t improve. On June 11, 2015, we learned from Reuters that the failing company may be choosing to run Android in future models. This raises many questions about the company’s fate and whether this was the right decision to make. Is Android the ideal operating system for BlackBerry phones?

This raises many questions about the company’s fate and whether this was the right decision to make. Is Android the ideal operating system for BlackBerry phones?

blackdroid-market
In the earliest years of the 21st century, the BlackBerry was the phone to get. The BlackBerry basically set a precedent for what a smartphone was supposed to be like. It recorded video, browsed the Internet, and had an enlarged screen that was more than appropriate for the wide range of functions. Its victory over the smartphone market was short-lived, however, when Apple began to chip away at its market share. Since then, the story of Research In Motion (RIM), the company in charge of the BlackBerry phone line, has been marred by a sequence of disappointments. Its market share for the 2010s has been at around one percent, giving shareholders the impression that the company was grasping at straws to remain relevant in an economy where customers have different demands.
For a time, RIM has been largely successful with business-oriented users, popular among executives and professionals. This is due largely to the impressive security in its operating system, including its unique elliptic curve cryptography (ECC) algorithm. Since 2010, even among the business demographic, BlackBerry has been losing ground because of its lack of flexibility with applications. Enterprise apps on phones were largely abandoning BB in favor of iOS and Android. Today, you will be pressed to find a popular app that runs on it anymore.
blackdroid-phones
Android has seen a great deal of success, overtaking Apple in sales in one of its few remaining bastions in February 2015. This was in no small part due to the availability of choice when buying Android phones. While Apple iOS runs exclusively on the iPhone manufactured by the same company, Android is capable of being licensed on a virtually unlimited number of devices. This brings us to BlackBerry, a company struggling to maintain relevance with an operating system that very few people are showing any interest in. According to the report by Reuters, while RIM (now known as BlackBerry Limited) desires to continue the development of the BlackBerry operating system, it appears to release phones that also run Android to help it pick up market share outside of its niche.
Should this come to fruition, I see no immediate change in BlackBerry’s fate unless they also spend considerable time forming a proper marketing strategy for these new devices. If BlackBerry can maintain the level of security it has while running Android, I think it could be a splendid opportunity to provide both professional and privacy-minded consumers with a new platform to work with.
What do you think? Would you buy a BlackBerry phone if it ran on Android?

If you’re low on space, you’ll notice your Android wheezing.

You can check how much space you have to work with by tapping “Settings -> Storage.” One of the first steps you can take to free up space is tap “Settings -> Apps” and browse around to see which apps you can uninstall and live without.
SpeedUpAndroid-uninstallapp
SpeedUpAndroid-clearcache
To uninstall an app, just tap the entry on the displayed list and tap “Uninstall.” You can do this as many times as you need for any apps you feel you can part with.
You can also free up space by cleaning out any files you may have downloaded. Tap “Settings -> Storage -> Downloads.” Select the files you want to remove and toss them in the trash. You can take it a step further if you’re feeling frisky and tap the “Cached Data” option and free up some additional space. A lot of the apps you’ve installed use data caches in an attempt to speed things up.
To clear the cached data just tap “Settings -> Storage -> Cached Data.” However, clearing the cached data is only effective up to a certain point, especially if you’re running out of space.

Any widgets you have running on your home screen may slide by with the excuse that they’re useful, but you need to keep in mind that they’re sucking up their fair share of resources just like everything else.
SpeedUpAndroid-widgets
Take inventory of how many widgets you have running and how many you actually use. Consider disabling the ones you don’t really need. It’s no big deal to have a few running, but you’ll notice a significant difference in the speed at which your phone operates if you allow yourself to be a little bit picky and disable a few.
First things first, you need to know which apps are running background processes and how power hungry they are. Power hungry apps running in the background can have a significant impact on the speed of your phone. To figure out which apps are slowing down your Android, you need to enable “Developer Options.”
In Developer Options, you’ll see the option to tap “Process Stats.” This will tell you how much time your key apps are running and the amount of RAM they are using.

You can see how much battery your apps are draining by tapping “Settings -> Battery.”
SpeedUpAndroid-Appdraining1
SpeedUpAndroid-Appdraining2
If you see some apps that you think are using a crazy amount of power or running in the background much more than it should thereby slowing down your device, then you can disable the app in your App Manager, force stop in the Running Tab, or just uninstall if you don’t really need it.
To disable an app running in the background, just tap “Settings -> Apps -> App Name you want to disable -> Force Stop.” Pretty easy, right?
SpeedUpAndroid-Disable1
SpeedUpAndroid-Disable2
Some of the most common speed suckers running in the background include music players you aren’t using, games you don’t play that often, and other apps that seem to be doing a lot more than they should. Example: a stock keyboard running in the background when you’re using a third party keyboard.
A quick and easy fix for a slower-than-Christmas phone is to just restart it. This can stop unnecessary app tasks from running, clear out the cache, and get things running back to normal. If you’ve never restarted your device before, it’s pretty simple. Just hold down the Power button, tap Restart, and then tap OK to confirm that’s what you want to do.
Just about every phone on the market – past, present, or future – will need a little speed-up maintenance at some point during its life. When you begin to notice that apps are taking a little longer to load, and there’s some lag time between tapping an app and the app responding, don’t hesitate to do a little clean up. Be good to your Android, and your Android will be good to you.

How to Disable Ads on Android using AdBlock Plus & Configurations

Do you frequently browse using your smartphone? Are you sick and tired of those annoying ads? Here’s AdBlock Plus. The popular ad blocker for web browsers can be installed in Android phones, too. Previously, users could download it directly from Google Play Store. However, Google removed it because of its “interference with another service or product in an unauthorized manner,” according to AdBlock.
Note: If your device is running Android 3.1 or higher or if the device itself supports manual configuration of the proxy, you don’t need to root the smartphone. Otherwise you can check if your Android phone is rooted and try any of these root apps before you proceed. AdBlock said it is “desirable” to use a rooted device for seamless blocking of ads.
1. On your Android phone go to Settings.
2. Go to either Applications or Security, depending on the type of phone you have.
3. Find the “Device Administration” tab or similar setting and check the “Unknown sources.”

1. Using your smartphone or tablet, in your browser, go to the official AdBlock Plus website for Android.

2. Click the “Download” button or scan the QR code.

3. You will see the progress of the download and wait for a few minutes. Click the file if it doesn’t run the APK file automatically. Click Install.

4. Click OK once the app is installed. You will see the “Filtering” feature toggled on.

5. Case by case, if AdBlock Plus cannot change the proxy settings, you need to configure it manually. Click the “Configure” button. Follow the instructions in the dialog box and set Proxy to localhost and Port to 2020.

Note: I used a Samsung device in this tutorial. Options may vary in other phones, but you can still configure it by opening the Wireless settings.
6. Long press the active Wi-Fi network (see the example below), and click “Modify network config.”

7. Choose and check “Show advanced options.” Under “Proxy,” choose Manual and type “localhost” and Port 2020.

Note: if AdBlock Plus still requires you to configure your network settings again, wait a few minutes and allow the changes to take effect. In this tutorial, I had to reboot my phone until the warning sign disappeared.
You can also check “Advance settings” for other modifications of the app like Start at boot or refresh over Wi-Fi networks.
AdBlockerPlus-advancedsettings
How do you check if AdBlock Plus works? Download or open an app that has ads or visit a website that has random ads.
Here’s an example. On the left screen, the AdBlock Plus was disabled. On the right screen, the app was enabled, and the banner ad disappeared.

How to Check for Updates for Non-Play Store Apps on Your Android Device

For apps that you have downloaded via the Google Play store, you will always be notified when there is an update to the app. However, if you have installed apps from outside the Play store, you will have to manually check if there is an updated version for the app. This can be a cumbersome task, especially when you have a number of these apps installed on your device and all of them are from different sources. If you are facing this problem, here’s a way for you to check for updates for the non-play store apps.

There is an app called ApkTrack that lets you check for updates for the apps that you have downloaded from outside the Google Play store.
To get started, download the ApkTrack app from its developer’s website, as it is not available on Google Play.
Make sure that “Install from unknown sources” is enabled on your Android device. If you’re unsure, head to Menu followed by Settings. Tap on Security and ensure that the Unknown sources option is tick-marked.
Launch File Manager and tap on ApkTrack to install the app on your device. Once installed, launch it from your app drawer.

When the app is launched for the very first time, you will need to allow the app to search for the installed apps on your device. To do that, click on the Search icon given in the top-right corner of the app. It will fetch all the apps that exist on your device.

Once you see all of your apps listed in there, tap on the Sync icon given next to the Search icon to find updates for these listed apps.
When the app has finished searching for updates, you will get notifications of which apps need to be updated.
From here you need to click the sync icon given next to the individual app to find the updated APK and to download and install it onto your device.
You can have ApkTrack search for updates in the background by enabling an option in the Settings menu.
Press the Menu button on your device and select “Settings” to go to the settings panel.
apktrack-settings
Tick-mark the option that says “Enable background checks” to allow the app to automatically check for updates for the apps installed on your device.
apktrack-background
While it is very easy to be notified about an update for the Google Play store apps, it is quite difficult to know if there is an update for an app that was downloaded from outside the Google Play store. ApkTrack helps you find updates for such apps so you can have them all updated on your device.
Cheers!!!

Good sex impacts couples’ total wellbeing

The way you express your sexuality is shaped by your acquisition of relevant knowledge and also by your individuality and your personal circumstances.

Whether you’re newlyweds or in a long time marital relationship, sexually challenged or able-bodied, young or old couples, think of your sexuality as a unique part of who you are. As the saying goes, fine wine and classic cars improve with age, so also let your sexuality and marriage relationship improve as the days go by. There are many “right” ways to experience great sex; today, we shall be looking into how to keep the sexual love life healthy and hot for years to come.

When able-bodied men noticed that their erection is different from what it used to be or is not as hard and does not last as long, coupled with the fact that the experience of ejaculation may not feel as strong as it used to, they are quick to associate virility with youthfulness. But I have found out that this may be due, in part, to just the weakening of the pelvic-floor muscles. Pelvic-floor muscles are responsible for drawing blood to the genitals during sexual activity, affecting erection and orgasm. And all that is needed is just a daily regime of Kegel exercise. The exercise actually fixes the problem up to 100 per cent regardless of age or prevailing circumstances.

Another common occurrence men of all ages notice at one time or the other is the experience of a longer refractory period; this is the time it takes the body to be ready for another erection after the first ejaculation, the period between the first and the next ejaculation. In some cases, the cooling off period may be as long as 12 to 24 hours or more or never. If you’ve climaxed, but you or your wife isn’t ready for the sexual experience to end just yet, the best approach is to focus on meeting your wife’s needs or on activities that don’t require an immediate erection. For example, you don’t need an erection for giving your wife an oral sex or manually stimulating her clitoris or sucking her breast or giving her a heavy foreplay that leaves her panting and wanting more. The magic of this is, it helps you to forget about your present predicament and refocus your attention on some other thing. This will spontaneously give an unexpected strong magical erection.

However, remember that whatever you do, don’t get stressed worrying about your virility. This is a sudden occurrence that comes once in a while and not a sign that you’re losing your touch. And you will likely find that the different sexual activities you engage in without an erection are still very pleasurable for you and your wife. Just be sure to reassure your wife that the longer time between your erections is not a reflection of how you feel about her. One of the best ways you can take control of this occasional occurrence is to press the end of your penis into her clitoral head while you are thrusting in and out. Make sure you linger in her vaginal entrance, where the most sensitive nerve endings are. So instead of deep ‘gbam’ ‘gbam’ thrusting, just focus on small, shallow thrusting movements that penetrate the first two to three inches of her vagina. This will not only help you to master the ejaculation but will trigger your wife’s arousal even if she has 3rd degree female genital mutilation [circumcision] and she will be 90 per cent of the time have a good orgasm. The trick here is when you help her have an orgasm first, it relieves you of some of the pressure to perform and the psychological anxiety that feeds into premature ejaculation. Wave off an early emission with some extra attention to her arousal because many husbands by this last much longer the second time around. And the more you practise, the longer that first time will last.

One best thing that helps this is to make your wife stay on top always. When she’s on top, your penis is less stimulated, then ask her to go slowly and slowly; long and fast thrusting is hazardous to a man’s endurance. This is because the area

To beat prostate cancer, have more sex

Sex is mostly seen as a pleasurable act, even though medical experts have said repeatedly that it is medicinal and a form of exercise.

Regardless, sexual intercourse is deemed to be one of the most enjoyable acts for both men and women. However, reaching orgasm, which is a climax of sexual excitement, characterised by feelings of pleasure centered in the genitals, has been found to reduce the likelihood of men having prostate cancer.

In fact, apart from the health benefits of sex, it has been proven that reaching orgasm could improve one’s health. Despite boosting testosterone levels, it helps men and women to sleep better and reduce insomnia, while relieving them of stress, because the oxytocin hormone released in the process relieves tension and stimulates feelings of warmth and relaxation.

Also, previous studies have shown that apart from enhancing people’s sense of smell, the oxytocin hormone released during orgasm helps people’s social feel, enhance their trust and bonding with others.

Notably, men’s orgasm is complemented by ejaculation. But, interestingly, a study has shown that apart from reaching the peak of sexual enjoyment, an orgasm a day can lower a man’s risk of prostate cancer, which is one of the most common types of cancer in men and it is common in men who are about 40 years and above and its diagnosis increases with age.

A 2012 study by the World Cancer Research Fund International had shown that more than 1.1 million cases of prostate cancer are recorded in a year, which reflects the prevalence of the disease.

But according to the study, men who have more sex and ejaculate more frequently lower their risk of the disease. In fact, the study pointed out that those who ejaculate 21 times in a month significantly cut their risk of prostate cancer by 22 per cent.

Prostate on its own is a small walnut-shaped gland that produces the seminal fluid that nourishes and transports sperm.

The researchers from Harvard Medical School in the United States explained that orgasm flushes out cancer-causing chemicals from the system, giving room for a replacement by new ones. Thus, the more the orgasm a man has the more his body would have been ridden of such chemicals.

In the study, the researchers followed about 32,000 healthy men aged between 40 and 49 for 18 years. They were asked to calculate their average monthly frequency of ejaculation during the period and the previous year when they were aged between 20 to 29, 40 to 49 and in the year 1991.

The researchers also took into account factors such as diet, lifestyle and whether the participants have a history of the cancer.

The study found that when compared to those who had orgasm for four to seven times, out of whom 3,839 of the participants were diagnosed with prostate cancer, participants who had orgasms for about 21 times a month reduced their risk of having the cancer.

The researchers added that orgasm, apart from flushing out old cells, also stops the build-up of old cells that may turn cancerous.

“Another theory is that if sperm is regularly cleaned out to allow new cells to develop, it helps to flush out old cells and stop the build-up of old ones that could turn cancerous,” the researchers told Mail Online.

One of the participants, Dr. Jennifer Rider, said the results were particularly encouraging but should be interpreted with caution.

Rider said, “While these data are the most compelling to date on the potential benefit of ejaculation on prostate cancer development, they are observational data and should be interpreted somewhat cautiously.

“At the same time, given the lack of modifiable risk factors for prostate cancer, the results of this study are particularly encouraging.”

He noted further that orgasm itself has protective benefits as the hormones oxytocin and dehydroepiandrosterone are released during orgasm, adding that oxytocin has the power to lower blood pressure in women, reducing their risk for cardiovascular disease at the same time.

How former Gov. Sylva helped my career –Faze

Faze, a member of the defunct Plantashun Boyz, is not somebody many would forget in a hurry. Since the group broke up many years ago, Faze has managed to come out with some hit singles that have rocked the airwaves.

But in recent times, the singer went underground. It was a big surprise to so many that he was among the artistes that performed during the presidential inauguration gala held in Abuja late last month.

Speaking to Saturday Beats on how he landed the deal, Faze said it was basically through God’s favour. However, he could not forget that the former Baylesa State governor has been of immense help to his career.

“I think that was God’s grace and favour, basically. We have people we work with and they are doing their work properly. My management is doing their work properly too, so that helped. And then I have a good rapport with some people in government, especially Timipre Sylva. He was actually the one that made it happen. He’s been like a father to me. Also, I’ve known some of them for a long time,” he said.

Talking about his absence in the music industry, Faze said he has been working underground.

“I’ve been working on a project and I’m almost done with it. What is holding it is the collaboration I’m doing with some friends. So, knowing that they all have their schedules, I have to give them that consideration, and when I feel they have the time, I’ll work with them. The album is coming out this year but I won’t specify the time. The album is titled ‘2000&Faze’. The promo for the songs will soon hit the airwaves,” he said.

Faze has not ruled out the possibility of Plantashun Boys coming back together as he said, “We are planning on working on a new album together.”

Men spend more time gossiping than women –Study

Don’t tell anyone I told you this, and remember it’s just between you and me. If anyone finds out, you are on your own,’ such is usually the intro or the concluding part of a gossip.

Men call it ‘mere discussion’ while women call it ‘gist’, but regardless of the colouration people try to give it, it is called gossip, defined simply as an idle talk between two or more persons, and usually about the affairs of others. It can also be defined as a casual conversation about other people, typically involving their private lives and usually sweet to the hearing.

Women used to be seen as gossiping and spreading rumours but experts say men seem to be better gossip.

According to a study conducted by a global research company, Onepoll, men are not just the bigger gossips, they spend more time gossiping than women. The story says men are more likely to expose the dirt about other people than women.

The study conducted by a global research company, Onepoll, found that men are happier when gossiping with their colleagues and that their contribution to the ‘chat’ gives them a feel of belonging. The findings of the study were published on Telegraph Online.

In the course of the study in which 5,000 people participated, it was found that men spend an average of 76 minutes gossiping with their friends while women spend just 52 minutes.

The study also found that while men prefer to exchange gossip in the office, mostly with their colleagues at work, women prefer to ‘confide in their friends’ while at home.

Male participants in the study pointed out that topics that usually dominate their ‘discussion’ with their male colleagues or friends include women, female colleagues at work, especially the most attractive ones, salaries and their sexual relationships, while the female participants said they were usually interested in other women, family issues, in-laws and celebrities.

While one third of the male participants said they were usually in their happiest mood when gossiping with their colleagues, 58 per cent said gossiping gave them a sense of belonging while 31 per cent of the men said they preferred chatting with their partners to having sexual relationship.

A spokesperson for the company said, “It is commonly believed that women are the ones who love to spread rumours and gossip about their friends behind their backs, but this poll proves that men aren’t as bad as women, they are worse!

“We found that men will do anything they can to be the centre of attention with their colleagues and peers. At the end of the day, hot gossip spices up what would otherwise be another boring day at the office for them.

“Women also love to talk about news, but rather than focusing on politics or government issues, news about soap operas, family issues, celebrities and other women are more likely to cause a debate and keep them busy.

“And for women, any type of relationship is up for discussion, whether it is their own, their friends, their friends’ friends or their bond with their mother-in-law, while topics dear to men include the local news agenda, rumours about possible relationships in the office or the boss, promotions, sex and salaries.”

The study further pointed out that more than half of women discuss details about their private lives with their friends while men’s discussion is usually dominated by happenings at work and their sexual relationship or escapades.

“Although they discuss very different things during their gossiping sessions, men and women agree on one thing – talking with more mates, work colleagues or partners makes them feel like they belong,” the study added.

Topics of interest to men, according to the study, include drunken friends, old school friends, female workmates, the sexiest girl at work, spreading rumours, promotions (who deserves it and who does not), sexual relationships and about the bosses and their activities and lifestyle.

On the other hand, topics of interest to women include other women, news, relationship

I feel like I’m 35 years – Charly Boy

Charles Oputa, aka Charly Boy, has said that he does not know how old he is.

This confession is coming at a time the celebrity, who is also popularly called ‘Area father’ is celebrating his birthday.

Charly Boy, in an interview with journalists, wonders how people arrived at the conclusion that he is 64 years old.

“I’m not particular about how old or young the number is. What I care about is the age of my mind and then the age of my body.

“From my look, my energy and all, I feel 35 or slightly younger. That is the age of my mind. Going by my experiences, my responsibilities, my wisdom and all, I should be about 87 years old,” he says.

Regarding his lifestyle and fashion, the entertainer notes that they have always depended on his mood.

He adds, “I dress the way I feel. My happy moments are when my usefulness is engaged, when I see the influence I bring into people’s lives, when I’m able to add value and make a measurable contribution to individuals and society.

“I hate to say goodbye. I find it hard to do so. That’s why you may not find me seeing cherished people to the airport unless we are travelling together. Same for my relationships. I love forever.”

Speaking on family, Charly boy notes that his children are his joy and pride.

“Unlike some parents who can’t truly love more than a child at a time, I love all my children in different ways and I see a bit of me in all of them, up to my siblings, grandchildren and all. Family is really what I have been blessed with, and my happiest moments have been family times,” the former president of the Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria adds.

Although he admits that time has forced him to slow down, he says he has no regrets concerning his past.

“Regrets don’t exist in my dictionary. I live life on the edge and to change it would mean doing things in traditional or conventional ways. To do that, for me, is to give up the ghost. If it’s not daunting and scary, it certainly is not for me.”

Sodimu declares war as pirates hijack October 1

Another pirated movie pits Nollywood practitioners against faceless copyright offenders, CHUX OHAI writes

Nearly two months after popular actor and filmmaker, Kunle Afolayan, said, in an interview with our correspondent, that he was not prepared to release his current movie titled ‘October 1’ in DVD format till he had finished with other distribution channels, copyright offenders hit the streets of Lagos with pirated copies of the film on Monday

As pirated copies of ‘October 1’ were openly sold for N500 each by roadside hawkers in different parts of the city, actor Yemi Sodimu, in what looked like a show of solidarity to the filmmaker, confronted some people found selling the pirated film in traffic and single-handedly confiscated several copies between Tuesday and Wednesday.

But investigation by our correspondent on Thursday showed that Sodimu’s action did not begin and end with the seizure of Afolayan’s pirated movie. The celebrated actor also seized pirated copies of Ayo Makun’s ’30 Days in Atlanta’, which has been described as one of the highest selling Nigerian movies in recent time.

Several hours after Sodimu unofficially started this unexpected, yet inevitable campaign, he wrote on his Facebook page, “Time to ignore the government and wage the war ourselves. I seized these copies of ‘October 1’ and others in the traffic today. Please join in this war. Let’s stop the madness NOW.”

With this statement and the implied invitation to fellow Thespians, as well as other concerned Nigerians, Sodimu has introduced a new dimension to the war against the activities of faceless pirates and other copyright offenders who have been feeding fat on the intellectual property of Nollywood practitioners for many years.

The continuous onslaught by faceless pirates, believed to be operating from undiscovered hideouts within the popular Alaba International Market in Lagos, has been a source of constant anxiety to Afolayan and other Nollywood filmmakers.

Once, the celebrated filmmaker had, in an interview with our correspondent, viewed the current trend among pirates to reproduce highest grossing Nollywood movies in DVDs with great concern.

Earlier, Nollywood producer and chief executive of G-Media, Chief Gabe Okoye, had an unpleasant encounter with suspected criminals at the popular Alaba International Market, who allegedly pirated some Nollywood movies currently distributed by his company. The films include Mahmood Ali-Balogun’s ‘Tango with me’, Kunle Afolayan’s ‘Phone Swap’ and Obi Emelonye’s ‘Onyeozi’.

Apart from leaving a sour taste in Okoye mouth, the encounter seemed to have exposed some of the real forces behind the continued existence of piracy in the country.

Before then, realising the extent of the leakage of ’30 Days in Atlanta’, Makun wrote an open letter to the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Suleiman Abba, requesting an urgent investigation of the illegal sale of pirated copies of ‘30 Day in Atlanta’ in the streets.

He wrote, “The continued dominance of piracy will lead to producers refusing to make more movies for fear of incurring losses. Producers who go ahead to make movies may be unable to pay back the loans accessed due to the activities of these vandals. Miscreants should not be allowed to steal the intellectual property of honest and hardworking citizens with impunity, while the owners impotently look on.”

Also in July 2014 and less than three weeks after Half of A Yellow Sun, a film adaptation of the award-winning novel by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, opened in the cinemas in Nigeria, scores of itinerant vendors were observed hawking pirated copies of the movie in different parts of the Lagos metropolis.

A leading movie marketer and distributor in Lagos had confirmed that the copies of the film sold on the streets were pirated.

However, seasoned filmmaker, Kunle Kelani, who has also been a victim of piracy, roundly condemned the latest attack on ‘October 1’.

In a statement made available on Thursday, Kelani
