Today is World Malaria Day 2016.

It is a day set out to globally share knowledge about Malaria, raise funds, rally support for improved research, promote malaria prevention techniques including mosquito nets and more.

Today, President, Malaria Society of Nigeria (MSN), Dr Babajide Puddicombe said in spite of the efforts committed to fight the malaria scourge, Nigeria still had the highest number of malaria casualties worldwide.

“A lot of resources and efforts have since been committed to fighting the malaria scourge and the results worldwide in the last 10 years have been encouraging.

“Thanks to the introduction of Artemisinin Combination Therapy (ACT) and long lasting insecticide treated nets.

“However, with about 100 million malaria cases and about 300,000 deaths annually, Nigeria has the highest number of malaria casualties worldwide, ” he said, quoting figures from the World Health Organisation.
